Product Information

There are many products - but whats the difference between them all?

There is a range of products in our shop and each of the products is designed to do specific jobs in the body. One of the common questions we receive is - what's the difference between them all as it seems the ingredients is the same. All the information you require can be found here on our page called 'Different types of Gelatin' Of course, if you have further questions then please call or email the office so we can assist you.

Are the cows grass fed?

Australian Beef:
The question of grass fed / grain fed gelatin and its source is something we are regularly asked. The answer in all its complexities is actually reasonably simple. The food grade gelatin – the gelatin used to assist digestive health, best for cooking with – is derived from Australian cattle. Whilst cattle are predominantly grass fed and raised for supply of meat to Australians and to export to the world, no guarantee can be made that cattle are “100% grass fed”. High standards are applied, and Australia has a reputation for compliance to strict regulations and providing the highest quality product. All stock is vet checked and certified, suitable for human consumption. It is important to know that the collagen structure is not dependent on what the feed is. IE – collagen is not affected by the type of feed (grass or grain); the collagen structure is determined by the animal DNA.This is different to the meat that is used from the cow, where the type of feed is important as the protein and fatty acid structure is affected by the type of diet – IE grains vs grass. We hope this clears up any confusion and welcome any questions – simply contact us.

German beef:
It is our understanding that the German cattle also experience similar conditions with feed and environment. While it is impossible to guarantee all cattle are grass fed, we can confirm that all cattle are healthy, vet checked and certified for human consumption.

Organic:
While we would love to say that our gelatin is certified organic we really cannot, as this is an almost impossible task. We would need to know exactly where each individual cow was sourced and that each farm had been certified organic. Additionally, a purpose-built processing plant would need to be built to verify that the products are certified organic, and guarantee no cross contamination.Hypothetically, if you could produce an organic gelatin, the cost of the product would be immense, and the retail market would not be willing to pay the cost. It would just be too expensive. However, we do have quality products that have been through checks and met high standards to ensure that we are able to supply the very best product possible.

Are there any sulphates or preservatives?

To make gelatin fit for human consumption, it is required by law to be cleaned. Early in the production process before it is gelatin the raw materials are treated with a sulphuric acid and a lime wash. The residual sulphites (the breakdown of sulphuric acid) are a result of chemical reactions occurring during the alkaline/acid washing and extraction by water and heat. This is typical of all gelatin manufacturers worldwide. There are no added preservatives to our products, however, it is possible there may be residual sulphites present due to the wash process.

Which one do I use?

Each of the products in unique and has individual special properties. Choosing the right product or combination of products can sometimes get confusing. Please read the product information pages to know what best suits you.

What is the type of collagen used?

Gelatin and collagen hydrolysates are made from Type I and Type III collagen (which is found in the skin, tendons, bones, organs, vascular ligature and reticular fibres). Type II collagen is found exclusively in the cartilage. Gelatin and collagen hydrolysates are derivatives of collagen from bovine hides. Hides are heated to produce gelatin. Hydrolysed collagen is basically the molecular structure of gelatin broken down into a single chain amino acid rather than its original triple helical amino acid structure. That is gelling gelatin broken down to non-gelling hydrolysed collagen. The difference between gelatin and collagen peptides (hydrolysed collagen) is the molecular size and weight. Gelatin is approximately 180K Daltons in size whereas collagen hydrolysates range from 2-10K Daltons. The smaller molecular structure makes it much more readily absorbed by the body. The type of collagen extracted (Type I, Type II, Type III) does not necessarily stimulate the particular body parts where it has come from, it is a much more complex system than Type I stimulates Type I. Type I and Type III collagen actually have a stimulatory effect on the Type II cartilage collagen as well as stimulating all other areas of the body that contain collagen. It is not where it has come from in the body, it is the particular amino acid sequences and structure of the protein that stimulate the collagen production.

Simply explained – All 3 products are made from type I and type III collagen which is found in skin, tendons, etc. Ingesting type I & III collagen stimulates the production of type II collagen in the body. Type II collagen is the collagen found in cartilage. This then promotes the growth of new cartilage.

It is important to note it is not the collagen being ingested that goes into the joints, it is the collagen that is ingested being utilised in the body to send signals to the cartilage cells to produce more collagen.

How long before I start to notice a difference?

This is wide and varied result. We suggest that it will take three weeks before people start to notice an improvement. This lines up with science as it takes about three weeks for cells in the body to be reproduced. It's this time that new healthier cells are produced. However, many (depending on the product and amount taken) have called our office to report improvement in condition in as little as four days. Each of us are individuals so results for time taken to notice improvement may vary. However, there is always an improvement in general health and wellbeing if even if you don't notice it (Not everyone turns into Superman)

Whats the difference between gelatin and collagen?

Collagen hydrolysate (which is the same thing as hydrolyzed collagen) is not exactly the same thing as gelatin. In the hydrolyzed form, the collagen is processed more intensively, which actually breaks up the proteins into smaller pieces. They both have the same amino acids, but different molecular structures and profiles.

Where are the Gelatin and Collagen products made?

The products are produced in both Australia and Germany. The gelatin we supply is manufactured in Australia from Australian cattle. The collagen products are manufactured by the same company, but in Germany. This is because we do not have the equipment here is Australia to produce hydrolysed collagen. For more information visit the product pages within the website.

Can I give these products to my pets / animals and will it benefit them?

Yes - these products will have a positive impact on your loved pet or animals. Clients have called reporting improvements in their old dogs, horses, grey hound racing dogs. While its difficult to determine the exact results the pet owners have observed improvement in behavior, movement and performance. I guess, only the owner will know.

What is the difference between Type I, II & III collagen

"Gelatin and collagen hydrolysates are made from Type I and Type III collagen which is found in the skin, tendons, bones, organs, vascular ligature and reticular fibres. Type II collagen is found exclusively in the cartilage”

  • Type 1 collagen– most abundant collagen in the human body. It is present in scar tissue, tendons, skin, arterial walls, cornea, surrounds muscle fibers, fibrocartilage, intervertebral disks, and bones and teeth. Its use is important in improving muscle, eye, skin, cardiovascular, bone, wound, and back health.

  • Type 2 collagen– found in joint cartilage, intervertebral disks, and the vitreous body of the eye. Its use is important in improving joint, back, and eye health.

  • Type 3 collagen– the second most abundant type of collagen in the human body. It is found in the intestinal walls, reticular fibres, uterus, muscles, blood vessels, and combined with type 1 collagen. Its use is important in improving digestive, uterine, muscle, and cardiovascular health.

It is important to note that our products do not contain type II collagen. The best way to get type II collagen is to take type I & III. This actually stimulates the production of type II collagen.

Common misconception – There is a lot of mis-information out there stating we need type II collagen and that’s all that people should buy. However, It is not commonly known that you need to take type I & III to induce the body to produce type II. Doing this will have a far greater impact on receiving the needed collagen type II than taking a collagen type II supplement.

Amino acids. Why do we need them?? And what the heck are they?? And if I need them so bad – where can I get some?? It sounds like some weird fad that healthy people harp on about, but they are essential to your ongoing wellbeing. Please see this page for the amino acid profile. An amino acid is an organic compound. These oraniccompunds are the basic building blocks of proteins. Proteins are essential for us to survive and our body to grow and be strong, and are super important for the growth and repair of the human body. Protein is the major structural component of all cells in the body. Without protein the cells and body will start to break down and die off. When enough die you will have some serious health issues. High doses of proteins are available from Gelatin which can be taken as a daily supplement. In short, we need these amino acids to provide protein to the cells in our body, so we can be healthy and survive.

There are 3 classes of amino acids Essential amino acids Essential amino acids cannot be made by the body, therefore we need to get them from our food. The nine essential amino acids are: • histidine • isoleucine • leucine • lysine • methionine • phenylalanine • threonine • tryptophan • valine Non-essential amino acids Non-essential amino acids can be produced by the body and it is not essential to obtain these amino acid from the diet. They include: • alanine • asparagine • aspartic acid • glutamic acid Conditional amino acids Conditional amino acids are usually not essential, except in times of illness and stress. They include: • arginine • cysteine • glutamine • glycine • ornithine • proline • serine • tyrosine Gelatin is a protein that contains 18 out of the 20 amino acids that are found in the human body. The four main amino acids in gelatin are • glycine, It acts as a neurotransmitter and plays a vital role in healing wounds. • proline, Helps in regeneration of new skin. • hydroxyproline is formed through the breakdown of the amino acid proline in the gastrointestinal tract and is essential for the stability of the collagen molecule. • alanine. Helps in removal of toxic from our body. These four amino acids are responsible for things like repairing damaged tissue, convert glucose to energy, create muscle tissue, maintenance of healthy skin, joint mobility, strengthening the gastro intestinal tract and elimination of toxins from the liver. Being high in these amino acids, Gelatin is fantastic for digestion, strengthening skin, hair, nails, reducing joint pain and inflammation and increasing collagen production. Gelatin is also known to assist with: health benefits • Skin elasticity • Connective tissue production • Bone and joint health • Promotion and stimulation of cell growth in joint cartilage • Restoring mobility of the joints by decreasing inflammation and joint pain (like the pain experienced from arthritis). • Digestion • Detoxification Gelatin is fantastic for the gastrointestinal system. Gelatin assists digestion by naturally binding to water to help food move through the digestive tract more easily. Taking food grade gelatin can assist in reducing food sensitivities by reducing inflammation in the gastro intestinal system. Functions of Essential Amino Acids: • Phenylalanine: Helps in boosting memory power and also helps to maintain a healthy nervous system • Valine: Helps in growth of muscles. • Threonine: It promotes the functioning of immune system. • Tryptophan: Plays a vital role in maintaining our appetite. • Isoleucine: Plays a vital role in synthesis of hemoglobin and it is a major component of RBC (red blood cells) • Methionine: Helps in maintaining a good and healthy skin. • Leucine: It promotes the synthesis of growth hormones. • Lysine: They are involved in the synthesis of enzymes and other hormones. • Histidine: Helps in the production and synthesis of both RBC (red blood cells) and WBC (white blood cells) Functions Non Essential Amino Acids: • Alanine: Helps in removal of toxic from our body. • Cysteine: It provides resistance to our body and inhibits the growth of hairs, nails and etc. • Cystine: It functions as an antioxidant and protects our body against radiation and pollutions. • Glutamine: It is necessary for the synthesis of RNA and DNA. • Glycine: It acts as a neurotransmitter and plays a vital role in healing wounds. • Glutamate: Helps in removal of toxic from our body. • Arginine: It promotes the biosynthesis of proteins. • Tyrosine: It plays a vital role in the production of T3 and T4 thyroid hormones. • Serine: Helps in growth of muscles. • Asparagines: Helps in the formations of purines and pyrimidines for the DNA synthesis. • Aspartic acid: It is similar toasparagines amino acids. It promotes the synthesis of other amino acids. • Proline: Helps in regeneration of new skin.

Taking Our Products/Dosage

Yes - certainly. All the powders will mix together easily. You do not need to take them apart. Be aware that you are taking in protein with each dose. so, if you are taking 3 of the products then this is 3 doses of protein. This is not normally a problem, but some are sensitive to protein so may experience some tummy bloating.

Should I take it with food or away from food?

Gelatin powder and collagen powder is actually a food (protein). Because of this you are able to take your daily dosage of the chosen product however and whenever suits your lifestyle. Additionally you will be able to mix these powders with food you are cooking - gelatin powder ie gravy, soups, porridge etc - collagen powder ie smoothies, shakes, milk shakes.... and the list goes on. Many people will find it simpler to take it in the morning when waking or before going to bed. The choice is yours!

How much do I use? What is the dosage?

The dosage for each product is on each packet and also information about the dosage can be found on the individual product pages in the website. Many people do query the 5 grams = 1 tablespoon. When cooking its normal that 5 grams = 1 teaspoon. However, because the powders are very light and different in their own molecular weight, size and structure, it takes more of the powder to make up the 5 grams. So, yes we have checked. When the dosage indicated 5 grams, 1 tablespoon, this is correct.

Can I cook with Gelatin Health Products?

Yes - you are able to cook with the raw gelatin and collagen products. PLEASE KNOW only the Gelatin - Digestive Health - can be used for thickening of foods. Gravy, soup, Jelly Etc. You can add any of the collagen products to your foods, smoothies, drinks at any time. Please see recipes and blog section of the website if you need more information.

What is the shelf life of the products?

The shelf life of the products is quite long. For the raw products of Gelatin and Collagen they have a shelf life of around 4 years. If the product is blended, such as the Digestive Health Gut Plus then the shelf life is 18 months. For more information visit the individual product pages and there is more information at the bottom of the page. Please note - there are no added preservatives or sulphites to increase the shelf life. The lack of moisture in the product is what allows the long time frame.

What is the best and easiest way to take the Gelatin and Collagen products?

We are often asked how to take the Gelatin. Please find the page called How to take Gelatin Many people have little issue, just mix with water and down the hatch it goes. However, the author -Dan - is a big sook and doesn’t like taking anything. So, what I do is mix it with water for a few seconds, then add a pulp orange juice for a few seconds then drink it down. The pulp hides the texture of the gelatin. We are all individual so find a way to take it to get the benefit. Some clients just eat it no problem. Others are a little more sensitive and need other methods. If the How to take it page doesn't help just give me a call and I can work, it out with you.

The dosage for each product is on each packet and also information about the dosage can be found on the individual product pages in the website. Many people do query the 5 grams = 1 tablespoon. The pulp hides the texture of the gelatin. We are all individual so find a way to take it to get the benefit. Some clients just eat it no problem.
